NADAII · North American Distributed AI Infrastructure Initiative

Building the infrastructure that will power North America's AI future.

Connecting energy, infrastructure and artificial intelligence to create a more competitive, resilient and sovereign North American digital economy.

North America has the energy resources, technological capabilities, industrial expertise and capital to lead the next generation of artificial intelligence. The opportunity is to bring these strengths together.

The North American Distributed AI Infrastructure Initiative (NADAII) is a proposed open, industry-led framework designed to accelerate the development of distributed AI infrastructure across Canada and the United States. By connecting energy producers, infrastructure developers, technology companies, AI providers, investors, policymakers and regulators, NADAII seeks to advance a practical model for transforming North America's energy advantage into the computing capacity that will power the global economy.

The opportunity

The next chapter of North American economic cooperation will be built on energy and intelligence.

Artificial intelligence is creating a new infrastructure economy.

Behind every AI model, application and intelligent system is a physical foundation: electricity generation, power infrastructure, data centres, computing hardware, connectivity, software and secure operating environments.

Demand for these resources is growing. Yet the infrastructure required to support AI is not being developed quickly or efficiently enough to meet the opportunity.

The opportunity is larger than building more data centres. It is about developing an integrated energy-to-compute economy. NADAII proposes a collaborative framework to help make that possible.

At the same time, North America possesses an extraordinary combination of complementary strengths:

  • Canada: abundant energy resources, established electricity infrastructure, natural gas, renewable generation, land and industrial capabilities.
  • United States: advanced AI companies, technology ecosystems, software development, capital markets and substantial enterprise demand.
  • North America collectively: integrated supply chains, engineering expertise, financial markets and a shared interest in secure and resilient digital infrastructure.

Our mission

Turn North America's energy advantage into its AI infrastructure advantage.

NADAII seeks to accelerate the development of a distributed, interoperable and commercially viable AI infrastructure ecosystem across North America.

Our mission is to:

  1. 01Connect energy resources with emerging AI and high-performance computing demand.
  2. 02Accelerate investment in modular, distributed and scalable computing infrastructure.
  3. 03Encourage secure and jurisdictionally appropriate AI environments.
  4. 04Promote open technical principles and interoperability across infrastructure providers.
  5. 05Facilitate collaboration between energy, infrastructure, software and AI companies.
  6. 06Support economic development, industrial productivity and North American competitiveness.

We believe the next generation of AI infrastructure should be developed through coordinated investment, practical commercial partnerships and open industry collaboration.

The framework

Six pillars for a distributed North American AI infrastructure ecosystem.

01

Energy-to-AI Development

Connect energy producers, independent power producers, utilities and energy developers with the growing demand for AI and high-performance computing.

Advance commercially viable approaches to power sourcing, generation, energy offtake and infrastructure development.

Objective: Make reliable energy a foundation for scalable AI infrastructure.

02

Modular and Distributed Infrastructure

Encourage the development of modular data centres, edge computing facilities and larger AI campuses that can be deployed according to regional energy availability, connectivity and demand.

Support phased development models that allow infrastructure to scale with actual customer requirements.

Objective: Expand computing capacity through flexible, geographically distributed deployment.

03

Sovereign and Secure AI Environments

Promote infrastructure models that support data governance, jurisdictional requirements, cybersecurity, access management and workload separation.

Enable organizations to deploy AI environments that reflect their operational, regulatory and national security requirements.

Objective: Strengthen control, trust and resilience across AI infrastructure.

04

Open Technical Standards and Interoperability

Encourage the publication and adoption of open technical principles, reference architectures and deployment guidelines.

Promote interoperability across energy systems, modular infrastructure, hardware, networking, software and AI platforms.

Objective: Reduce fragmentation and support a more connected infrastructure ecosystem.

05

Commercial Alignment and Investment

Encourage bankable project structures, transparent project evaluation, credible compute demand and long-term commercial offtake arrangements.

Bring together project developers, infrastructure providers, technology companies, institutional investors and capital partners.

Objective: Translate infrastructure opportunities into financeable and executable projects.

06

Economic Development and Infrastructure Resilience

Support regional investment, skilled employment, industrial productivity and the development of resilient digital infrastructure.

Explore how distributed computing can support manufacturing, energy systems, logistics, remote operations and other strategically important industries.

Objective: Ensure that AI infrastructure creates lasting economic value across North America.

Why distributed AI infrastructure?

Not every AI workload needs to be located in the same place.

Large centralized data centres will remain essential to the AI economy. But they are not the only infrastructure model required.

Distributed infrastructure can complement hyperscale facilities by bringing computing capacity closer to energy sources, industrial operations and specific regional requirements.

A more distributed model can expand deployment options, diversify infrastructure locations and support more flexible approaches to power and compute development.

The objective is not to replace centralized infrastructure. It is to build a complementary ecosystem capable of serving a wider range of workloads and customers.

This creates opportunities for:

  • AI inference and edge computing.
  • Industrial automation and predictive maintenance.
  • Energy optimization and grid-related applications.
  • Manufacturing, logistics and supply-chain intelligence.
  • Remote and resource-intensive operations.
  • Secure enterprise and government AI environments.
  • Regional AI infrastructure and sovereign computing initiatives.

A North American opportunity

Canada's energy. America's technology. A shared infrastructure future.

NADAII recognizes the complementary strengths of the Canadian and American economies.

Canada can play a greater role in the AI economy by moving beyond the traditional export of energy commodities and developing energy-enabled digital infrastructure.

The United States can benefit from expanded access to energy-backed computing capacity, infrastructure partnerships and a broader North American supply chain.

NADAII is not intended to replace existing trade agreements, government policy or regulatory institutions. It is a proposed industry-led framework for identifying opportunities and encouraging practical collaboration that can complement existing North American economic relationships.

Together, both countries can explore new forms of private-sector cooperation that support:

  • Cross-border energy and infrastructure investment.
  • Greater resilience in critical digital infrastructure.
  • Expanded AI computing capacity.
  • Industrial and commercial innovation.
  • Responsible development of sovereign AI capabilities.
  • Long-term economic competitiveness.
